Wake Up Narcolepsy Announces Changes to the Board of Directors

Narcolepsy Leadership and Advocacy Continues at WUN:

Wake Up Narcolepsy is thrilled to announce the election of Julea Steiner, of Chapel Hill, NC, to the Wake Up Narcolepsy Board of Directors. Julea is a clinical assistant professor in the Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She brings over 15 years of experience in health communications, marketing and public health advocacy to Wake Up Narcolepsy. After suffering with sleepiness and cataplexy for more than 25 years, Julea was finally diagnosed with narcolepsy at age 35. She is passionate about raising awareness about narcolepsy and encourages others to explore their symptoms and break through the cultural stereotypes of the disorder. She current;y serves on the advisory board for the National Institute of Health Center on Sleep Disorders Research.

Additionally, in April the Board of Directors approved the inclusion of the position of Board Member Emeritus on the Board of Directors. The Board Member Emeritus is a person who has served the organization with distinction and excellence or who has made a significant contribution to the purpose of the organization. Gordon Gow of Toronto, a member of the WUN Board of Directors since inception, was elected to the Board as the first Board Member Emeritus after he resigned his tenure on the Board. According to Chair, Laura Fabrizio, there is not a person more deserving of this distinction than Gordon Gow. “He has made an immeasurable impact on not only Wake Up Narcolepsy, but the entire narcolepsy community in the US and Canada. We are so fortunate to continue to benefit from Gordon’s support, insight and guidance as he transitions to his new advisory role with the Board.”

Wake Up Narcolepsy is a nonprofit organization dedicated to speeding narcolepsy diagnosis through greater awareness and funding medical research to find a cure. Narcolepsy is a devastating lifelong, incurable sleep disorder affecting 200,000 Americans and millions worldwide.
