No matter how you choose to give, we appreciate it greatly.
Thank you for supporting Wake Up Narcolepsy and the Narcolepsy community.
Social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram make it easy to raise awareness – and donations – for nonprofits. In lieu of birthday gifts, you can ask for donations to be directed to Wake Up Narcolepsy, or you may simply want to share your connection to the cause and invite friends and family to join you in your support.
Follow the steps below to get started:

You’ll see a screen pop up where you can invite your friends to donate to your fundraiser, share your fundraiser in your news feed, or donate to the fundraiser yourself.
If you’re not ready to do any of those things, click Not now.
A message will pop up that congratulates you on creating your fundraiser. From there, you can invite your friends to donate, share your fundraiser in your News Feed, or donate to the fundraiser yourself.

The fundraiser will be added to your bio and shared to your followers. You can edit or end at any time.
Once you have picked WUN and your fundraiser is over payments are sent to Wake Up Narcolepsy via Facebook, as Facebook owns Instagram. Wake Up Narcolepsy is paid quarterly.
Most people take 8 hours of sleep for granted. For individuals with Narcolepsy, it’s not that simple. The $8 for 8 hours fundraising campaign was created to launch WUN’s monthly giving program.
Whether you’re living with Narcolepsy, loving someone who is, or just learning about it for the first time — $8 is a way to say: “I’m in. This matters to me.”
Why Give Monthly?
No matter the amount you decide to contribute, choosing to make a recurring gift is one of the most impactful ways to stand with Wake Up Narcolepsy all year round. This ongoing commitment provides steady, reliable funding that allows us to plan ahead and make an even greater difference in the lives of those we serve. Every monthly donation, no matter the size, adds up to create lasting change and ensures your support is felt by the community every single day.
Planned Giving
Planned giving is a philanthropic strategy in which donors decide to contribute to a nonprofit organization through future gifts, often as part of their estate planning. These gifts can take many forms, such as:
Planned giving allows supporters to have a lasting impact while potentially enjoying tax benefits and ensuring their legacy aligns with their values.
Planned giving is important to Wake Up Narcolepsy as it provides a reliable and sustainable source of funding that helps long-term viability. These gifts often represent larger contributions than annual donations, enabling nonprofits to invest in their mission, expand programs and weather economic fluctuations.
Gifts of Stock and Appreciated Securities
Another way to make a meaningful contribution to Wake Up Narcolepsy is through gifts of stocks and securities. Donating appreciated stocks, bonds or mutual funds can be a tax-efficient method of supporting our mission—allowing you to potentially avoid capital gains taxes while receiving a charitable deduction for the fair market value of your gift. This form of planned giving can be financially beneficial to the donor while strengthening Wake Up Narcolepsy’s ability to fund research, provide education and support individuals affected by Narcolepsy.
Donor-Advised Fund Giving
A donor-advised fund (DAF) is a flexible and tax-advantaged way to support Wake Up Narcolepsy’s mission. By recommending grants from your DAF, you can make impactful gifts that help fund research, education and programs for those affected by Narcolepsy. Many donors appreciate DAFs for their simplicity as they allow you to consolidate charitable giving and offer the potential for immediate tax benefits while supporting causes you care about.
To contribute from your donor-advised fund, simply contact your DAF sponsoring organization and recommend a grant to Wake Up Narcolepsy .

An increasing number of companies now offer matching gift programs to encourage charitable giving among their employees. By matching donations, businesses demonstrate their commitment to social responsibility and amplify the impact of individual contributions.
To find out if your employer offers a matching gift program, start by checking the company’s human resources or benefits website, where such programs are often listed. You can also ask your HR representative directly, as they can provide details about the eligibility process. Additionally, some organizations include information about charitable giving programs in employee handbooks or onboarding materials.
Workplace giving is an easy way to support Wake Up Narcolepsy where and while you work. Some companies encourage their employees to share information about nonprofit organizations that they care about. Often, these are organizations that have served the employee or a community to which they belong. Some will also approve workplace fundraisers.
A great place to start, if your company has one, is an Employee Resource Group, or a Wellness Champion Program (usually an extension of the HR department).
