Wake Up Now Detroit A Huge Success

On October 14, 2016, Wake Up Narcolepsy (WUN) Board Member, Rose Marie Engman, along with her husband, Jon hosted the first Narcolepsy Awareness event at their home in Birmingham, Michigan. The event, Wake Up Now Detroit, served to educate the Detroit area about narcolepsy, and the efforts of Wake Up Narcolepsy to increase awareness about this disease, and raise money for narcolepsy research.

There were more than 80 guests in attendance who enjoyed spirits, hors d’oeuvres and music while visiting tables to learn about Narcolepsy Fast Facts, special WUN programs like Narcolepsy Goes To School and to preview the first children’s book about narcolepsy titled, “The Sleep Stories: Chronicles of an Invisible Illness.” Additionally, Laura Fabrizio, WUN Board Chair, had the opportunity to speak to supporters about her experience as a parent of a son with Narcolepsy, and share their journey. The evening concluded with a chance for guests to bid on silent auction items, all with a special Detroit theme.

Wake Up Narcolepsy is thrilled to report the evening was a great success. Not only did we raise awareness about narcolepsy and grow our friends in the Mitten, but the Wake Up Now Detroit event raised close to $21,000. These funds will be donated directly to our narcolepsy awareness campaigns and education programs to benefit patients living with narcolepsy and their families.
