Wake Up Narcolepsy Donations Play Pivotal Role in Research

WUN Research Donations Making A Difference

On November 8, 2016, Wake Up Narcolepsy Board Member, Suzanne Rispoli had the honor of presenting Dr. Emmanuel Mignot, MD, PhD, Director of the Stanford Center for Sleep Sciences and Medicine at Stanford University with a $30,000 unrestricted grant to continue their work with a Genome Wide Association Study which will help identify possible existing risk associations and genetic associations that may predispose patients to Narcolepsy.

According to Dr. Mignot, he and his team especially appreciate the support of Wake Up Narcolepsy research dollars this year as the WUN donation helped to bridge a gap in funding since their grant from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stoke’s Program Project Grant is up for renewal. As a result, this funding has been suspended while Dr. Mignot’s team completes the re-application process. This unrestricted grant from Wake Up Narcolepsy played a pivotal role in allowing Dr. Mignot and his team to continue their research while retraining crucial research personnel.

Dr. Emmanuel Mignot, MD, PhD, receives $30,000 unrestricted grant from WUN Board Member, Suzanne Rispoli.

Thanks to WUN supporters and donors like you, in 2016 Wake Up Narcolepsy has granted more than $70,000 in unrestricted grants directly to researchers like Dr. Mignot who are on the front lines leading teams in making critical discoveries to shed light on this severely misunderstood disease. Eventually, with your continued support, we are hopeful that a cure for Narcolepsy will be found.
