On Tuesday, May 18, 2010 Wake Up Narcolepsy hosted it’s Second Annual Golf Outing at Wachusett Country Club in West Boylston, MA.
Over 120 golfers gathered at the clubhouse to check in and eat a light breakfast, before dispersing across the 18 hole course. At 10am, the clubs began swinging in the scramble-style golf tournament.
The community’s support of those living with narcolepsy was visible throughout the entire day and at all eighteen holes. In addition to tournament sponsors, each hole was adorned with signs of individual and corporate sponsors.
Hole 18 featured an exciting raffle contest to win an Apple iPad. All golfers had a chance to go up against the golf pro. The pro and golfer took three shots and if any of the golfers’ shots came closer to the hole than the pro’s best shot, the golfer received doubled his/her raffle entries.
After a long day of golf, everyone gathered at the clubhouse to relax with some drinks. Participants perused the well-stocked silent auction before settling down for dinner. Auction items included an iPad, Garmin, iTouch, Red Sox and concert tickets, sports memorabilia, golf outings and a ski vacation. WUN leaders Kevin Cosgrove and David Gow gave closing remarks and Julie Flygare described running the Boston Marathon as a person with narcolepsy. The outing raised over $10,000 towards funding cutting-edge narcolepsy research.
